My guess is that no, you are not pregnant. The reason why I say that is because
- You had sex early in your monthly cycle (it’s possible to get pregnant then, but the odds are slim). Having sex on May 4th would minimize the chance of sperm coming in contact with your egg once you ovulated. While sperm can stay alive in you for several days, your egg will only be “fertilizable” for 24-48 hours, and, if sperm was still in your body up through May 9th, even if you ovulated earlier than the typical 15th day of your period (counting April 28 as the first day with May 10th being day 15), there probably wouldn’t be enough sperm left in your system to do their job.
- You took the Next Choice pills right after having unprotected sex. Taken right away, they have a 90% success rate. The longer you wait to take them, however, the more the probability for pregnancy increases.
So, while my first reason has some possible “flaws” in it, I think that when we mix both reasons together, we’ve got a good “case” for you not being pregnant.
As far as your period being late, from my experience, it’s not uncommon at all for people to get their cycles messed up after taking Next Choice (or other forms of emergency contraception). Plus, being worried about possibly being pregnant is going to affect your period’s timeliness all the more. I wouldn’t worry too much about your breasts aching as that could be caused by the high hormone dosage from Next Choice or something else.
If you want to completely ease yourself, I’d recommend taking a home pregnancy test, but I’ll put my money on it being negative.

Did you take a morning after pill (emergency contraception) after having sex? If so, how long did you wait? Have you been on a daily birth control pill? If so, do you take it regularly each day or do you occasionally miss days?
It is a concern that your period is 3 days late, but I don’t have a whole lot of info to really know what might be going on. Was this your first time having sex? Have you been really worried about becoming pregnant from having had sex with your fiance? It’s not uncommon for very high stress to make your period be delayed (so that could be a possibility). When do you plan to get married? If your wedding is coming up soon, the stress related to all of that could also have an effect on your body’s regular cycle.
If you are absolutely sure that it’s been a month (or longer) since your last period, then you could take one pregnancy test now and then take another one in a week from now (in case the first one is negative due to the levels of hCG being too low in your body if you really are pregnant).

Mariah, you should be fine. The Next Choice pill gives you a high probability of not getting pregnant, whether you take it right after having sex or right before.

okay, so I’m slowly dying on the inside here. I’m only sixteen, and I had sex while on my period but I was only a few days away from getting off. We, of course, used a condom and it broke but I’m not sure how long we went with it broke because we heard a pop and I freaked out. So, the next morning (around eleven?) I took the plan b pill, but I still felt weird. This happened August 24th, & it’s September 6th now I’m still feeling weird. I took a pregnancy test (the $9.99) and it came up what I thought was negative but after reading the instructions it says that even if the other line to the plus is a little faded it means yes, and I b a r e l y even remember if there was one or not. And I’m scared to wait until my next period to take the other one for fear that I can’t get an abortion. My moods have been going from happy to worried to happy again in a matter of an instant.
I just need some information because I can’t tell my mom because I would be in more trouble than you think I would ever be.

You should be ok. The Plan B pill will give you some side effects and might mess up the regularity of your period. Though it has been known to happen, it’s rare to get pregnant while on your period, plus, taking the Plan B pill right away virtually guarantees nothing happened in your case. We’re talking about a very, very small probability of getting pregnant.

Most likely the Next Choice pills are causing your period to be either delayed or skipped altogether. It’s very common. I wouldn’t be too worried. Your abortion/pregnancy can also mess up the regularity of your cycle or cause you to skip a period or two. Just to be safe, you could always take a home pregnancy test in a couple weeks, but I highly suspect it would come back negative.

Im 24 I have a daughter who is almost 3 and one who just turned 1 this year.
