Hey Sophie,
You should be fine. Missing one pill is usually a “minor” incident with little effect on your body’s ovulation cycle. If you ever do miss a single pill, it’s usually best to take it once you remember, even if it means doubling up on the pills the next day. Remembering 14 hours later as you did is perfectly fine.
If however you miss two pills, then you’re pushing it and your body may very well release an egg. Then it’s typically best to double up and use a condom when you have sex (while still taking your birth control pills). When you start your next pack, then you should be safe to have sex condomless again.
Best,
Justin

thank you so much for your answer! I went to the pharmacy today and talked to the pharmacist who told me the same thing. I also purchased a pregnancy test (biotest hcg) and the test result was negative. I’m still a bit worried cause it’s only 5 days after the “accident”, can that cause a false negative? thanks again!
Hannah says
Yeah, a home pregnancy test works by detecting a minimum level of hCG (Human chorionic gonadotropin) in your urine. However, the amount of time it takes for enough hCG to build up from the point of fertilization will vary from girl to girl. Many home pregnancy tests say to wait until the last day of your next expected period to take them. There are some more sensitive home pregnancy tests today which trigger a positive at lower levels of hCG, and they could (in theory) be taken a little bit earlier. I usually still say to wait until the day your next expected period should have ended (unless you don’t mind forking out extra bucks for repeat home pregnancy tests). Some girls can still have a false negative even taking it then, but waiting a week after your missed period and taking a 2nd pregnancy test then usually gives you a very accurate read.
I highly doubt you’re pregnant, but a 5 day wait after a possible conception would not typically be long enough.

also my breasts are a little swollen, that is making me very concerned. can that be from menstruation? i mean are the symptoms of a period while using the pill the same as we get from normal period? Sorry for all the questions but i’m still really worried
Hannah says
It’s possibly hormone related. When you are on a daily birth control pill, you don’t really have a “regular” menstruation cycle. You do get what we call withdrawal bleeding due to the period when you take the typical sugar pills (and your body suddenly has a lower level of hormones instructing it what to do). It’s hard to say exactly why your breasts are a little swollen. Where are you in your monthly birth control pack right now?
Sophie says
can that be caused by stress or be psicological? I also have a gassy feeling on my lower abdomen but I can’t know if that could be conception related or just my nerves (I tend to get really stressed in situations like this and my body sometimes “simulates” symptoms).
the birth control pill I take is a 21 pill pack. when i finish the pack I do a 7 day break and start another pack on the 8th day. I’m on the 2nd day of that break today.
Hannah says
Yeah, a lot of symptoms can be the result of stress as well as be mimicked through our mind. Psychologists/psychiatrists have done extensive studies on that, and the results are quite interesting. Why else does our stomach start to hurt when someone around us says their stomach is hurting and they feel like throwing up? Why do we feel nauseous when we hear that some people got sick from food poisoning eating at an event where we also were? Our mind loves to play tricks. In your case, it’s probably a lot of stress helping exaggerate what you’re feeling.
Sophie says
Well, I guess all I can do now is wait and hope for the best. thank you a lot for your answers!
Hannah says
Sure thing, Sophie. Let’s hope for the best!

i started my 28 day pack of yasmin bc on my 3rd day of my period and i have taken it as directed, the day of my 4th pill me and my bf messed around for about 5 mins. could this lead to a pregnancy and how soon after taking the pill can i have unprotected sex?
P.S : he did not ejaculate.
Hannah says
Usually it’s best to wear a condom for the first week or so. Probably by the 8th pill you should be safe. If he didn’t ejaculate, you should be fine. I wouldn’t be too concerned.

I had my withdrawal bleeding but I still feel very strange. Is it possible that I’m really pregnant? I haven’t had the chance to take another pregnancy test, so I’m literally freaking out, I feel like throwing up sometimes and I have a bubbly gassy feeling on my ovaries (I guess, I don’t really know where they’re really situated) and now I’m cramping like when I do before my period, and I also have a yellow discharge (started as kind of a white one). Can that be signs of pregnancy?
thanks again

Hi, I take the combined pill zahara. I started taking my first pill on day one of my period. On the 21st I missed my pill, and i was in the 3rd week. I think the last time i had sex was either the 14th or the 16th. Today( the 25th) I had sex with a condom and it broke. I was going to skip my break week and go straight into my new pack B/c i have a really big event coming up and i would love to not be on my period. Since the condom broke he doesn’t know if he got any inside of me or not. Should I go ahead and take Plan B? if so will this make my period come even though I’m starting a new pack to make sure that it won’t?

Hi, so I take birth control. For about 2 years now, it has been intended for my periods and not sex-related reasons. But I would like to assume that birth control is birth control. Well my situation is that, last night I had sex. I know I shouldn’t be paranoid but I am, I take my pill around 11 pm every night but last night I didn’t take it till around 1:30 am and then around an hour later we had sex. He was wearing a condom but it broke. He didn’t ejaculate in me and was far from ejaculating. But I noticed during our session that there was some liquid within the condom so I’m assuming that’s precum. As soon as the condom broke, he realized and pulled out. He seemed so carefree about it and just put on another condom and continued while I was freaking out on the inside because I took my pill 3 and a half hours late and I think he precummed. Lately I have been more aware of my pill considering I just became sexually active so for a month I have been taking my pill properly. Except for the 3 and half hour late situation last night. But birth control has been in my system for 2 years. There’s past times where I’ve missed several pills. But like I said, I’ve been going strong for a month. Basically I am wondering what is someone’s opinion on this? I’m too young to be pregnant so I am fearing that I could be. I just got off my period a couple days ago. So waiting for my period will be a while. Opinions? Thank you.

May 2017, I had a miscarriage when I was 6-7 weeks pregnant. Although the doctors had told me its perfectly normal to bleed. I went for a scan to see the babies heartbeat to find that there wasn’t one. They informed me not to take me pill until three cycles after due to my hormones getting back to normal. In August, I found out I was pregnant this now makes me 9 weeks pregnant. To be completely honest if something feels wrong then there is a high chance something is, trust your instincts, I had fatigue but not throwing up, I had painful abdominal pains which I just thought were stretching pains because I was eating a lot more than usual. If you think you are pregnant then id advise to go a doctor and they will check the amount of HcG in your urine and if that says positive then you’ll be referred to a midwife and they’ll test the amount of HcG in your bloods.

On June 9th, my boyfriend and I had sex. I take the pills orally and that night he didn’t ejaculate in me. I have taken loads of pregnancy tests since then, all of which have been negative without a faint second line. I’ve gotten all my periods since then, and I haven’t been having any pregnancy symptoms, but that day I forgot to take my pill in the morning and instead took it that night when I got home. I am really scared that I might be pregnant. Please help.
