June writes, “I am 19, i missed a birth control pill on Wednesday in my first week of my second pack. I had sex on thursday and took one pill before sex and one after sex to catch up. The condom broke during sex and he doesn’t think that he came, but is not certain. It has been less than 24 hours, should i get plan b?“
If I read you correctly, you are only on your second pack of birth control pills? In other words, you just started taking birth control pills? Typically, if you skip one, after you’ve been on them faithfully for a while, you should be fine. The probability for becoming pregnant increases when you skip a couple in the same month, especially if you miss them back to back. As many others with me will affirm, that typically causes our periods to come on early!
I would imagine that you would be safe. You’ve been taking the pills for a month so far, so your body has started to adjust. Typically, it can take a couple months until your body “gets used to” birth control pills. If you wanted to be extra sure, you could go and take Plan B, but that’s your call.
