Nisa writes: Hi Hannah. My last period began on the 11th december I had sex on the 18th of december and the condom broke and my partner ejaculated in me. Within 2 hours I took the morning after pill but because it was my first time taking the pill I did not insert it properly and pieces released it self I than went back to the pharmacy and they told me to take another dose 4 hours later which I did.( Both pills within 6 hrs after sex).
On the 25th I started bleeding heavy for 4 days (just like my period). It is now the 31 of jan and I still have not got my period. To date I have taken several HPT’s which were all negative. I had sore nipples for few days a week back and some days I have frequent urination. In the evenings I feel nauseas but the feeling quickly subsides.
What are my chances of been pregnant? When should I test again? Please advise me on all the above mentioned issues and questions thanks
Re: Pregnancy Type Symptoms after Taking Plan B One Step Twice
Gosh u just described me plan B *2 only I took two doses within 6 hours after the condom broke. But I have the exact same symptoms and I am patiently awaiting my period, although I can’t help but fear that I may be pregnant. The tiredness and breast growth is the worst.

Dear Nisa,
Thanks for your persistence :) Before I can really tackle any part of your question, I need to clarify something. You said you did not “insert” the pill properly. Could you please tell me what kind of pill it was (preferably brand name or main ingredient)?
Thanks!
Hannah

Hi hannah.
Its the single dose pill.
The name is ESCAPELLE.
Thanks
I have researched this pill now and I am not 100% sure but I think the main ingredient is Levonorgestrel.
Hope this helps.
Hey Nisa, Yes, I’m familiar with Escapelle. It’s just like the Plan B or NextChoice which we have here in the States. What I’m puzzled by is you said you “inserted” it. Could you elaborate? Did the pharmacist tell you to insert the pill into your vagina? If so, did you also insert the second pill or did you swallow that one?
Yes Hannah I was told to use the vaginal insertion method for it to be more effective.
Yes Hannah I was told to use the vaginal insertion method for it to be more effective.
I used that method for both.
Wow … I can’t believe the pharmacist told you to do that. Taking it by insertion in your vagina is not an intended way to take that drug and can increase the probability for negative side effects. Taking it orally within the first 12 hours typically gives you a good 95% chance for success. If we assume that an equivalent amount of the drug was absorbed through your vaginal insertion, then you should be fine. Since you did experience side effects commonly associated with that drug, then we can assume your body did absorb some of it. If you body absorbed about 1 1/2 pills worth, then you got a massive dose of hormones and you’ll be experiencing the side effects of that for a while. I don’t believe you are pregnant; but I do believe your body is still reeling from all the chemicals.
OMG! Thank you so much Hannah I had no idea that I was taking it wrong since it was my first time and that’s what the pharmacist told me to do .However my chances of been pregnant should be very slim ryt?? Goodness I hope I am not pregnant as I had the withdrawal bleeding and all the negative tests.and I am hoping now that even though I took it that way it still reduced my chances as normal due to the double dose.
I am so worried now more than ever.
What would be the best thing for me to do right now at this stage?
Oh and I was abit sceptical about the insertion method and did question the pharmacist and he sed that the vaginal insertion method would be best as this is the method used by gynecologists when conducting an abortion and he gave me a comparison of the escapelle and the first tablet they give u to stop your body from producing pregnancy hormones.
It was a while back so I am tryng to give you the best brief story as far as I can remember.
Thanks
You’re so far along from the sex incident and the pregnancy tests were all negative. I wouldn’t be worried about being pregnant. But it’s hard to tell how much longer the side effects will bug you. Just grin and bear it :) oh, and it wouldn’t hurt to get started on a daily birth control pill – they are usually much friendlier to your body (once it adjusts to them, that is).
Okay thank you hannah.
I will take another test tonight to make sure and am definitely planning on going back to that guy.
I am planning on starting a birth control (yasmin) I am just waiting for my period to start the pill.
Thanks so much again and will keep u updated so that I can get answers lol.
Yeah, he’s right about the abortion pill being vaginally inserted; however, that’s a whole different kind of pill and for a whole different purpose with extremely strong side effects. The Morning after Pill is intended to prevent fertilization from taking place, not cause your body to abort a baby. Emergency contraceptives are just a super large dose of the typical birth control pill (though typically only made from Levonorgestrel while most birth control pills also include estrogen). RU486 (mifepristone) aka the Abortion Pill, while in small doses it’s been demonstrated to function as an emergency contraceptive, is a significantly stronger chemical which has a much more devastating effect on your body with stronger side effects for many women.
Okay Hannah so if I’m understanding you correctly and please correct me if I’m wrong.
Using the vaginal method did the job but is just causing me to have much more severe side effects.
Yep, you should be good. The extra side effects may be related to having vaginally taken it and are most likely related to having taken probably around 1 1-2 doses. You’re good to go.
Sorry – still perturbed with that pharmacist!
You not the only one.
I will definitely go back to make sure he knows he is advised me wrong and now I got to suffer with all these side effects for no reason but most of all to make sure that he doesn’t give anyone else the wrong advise.
I can not thank you enough.
This site is the best help I got since I took the pill.
But, keep in mind that you may have experienced similar side effects by just taking the pill orally. And, the side effects may also have been caused by the double dose. So, we can’t truly blame the pharmacist for all that. However, he definitely should not recommend to take that pill vaginally either way.
Agreed (“,).
Perhaps I should just make him aware that he suggested the wrong method and should not do so in future.
Good luck getting him to listen to you! Lol
i took Escapelle 6 days ago, after about 48hours of unprotected sex. i am experiencing bleeding and am getting worried. is everything ok?
When did your last period start and end, Nana? Emergency contraception can give you different side effects based on when you took it during your cycle.
Hi nana!
Yes it is normal, you are experiencing withdrawal bleeding.(Its your bodies way of telling you the pill worked)
Hope this helpz.
Ladies, please consider using a regular form if birth control from now on. It is much easier on your body. It has been about a month and a half since I took my last plan b one step pill and I am still experiencing the side effects. My breasts are still very sore and I am constantly hungry and gasy, sometimes even nauseous. I haven’t been able to work out as usual in weeks because my digestive system is all out of whack :/
I’m just waiting for my period so I can start with BC, I don’t ever wana go through this again.
I have taken my pill on the 18th of december n d side effects downa stop.
@ Nisa I hope they go away for you soon! I hope AF comes for you soon as well!!! Keep us posted!!! These side effects are horrible!!! :/
I took another HPT test (trevilon-advertised as been 99% accurate) just to make sure n it was negative I had abit of brown spotting today but it just stopped although the mild cramps r still ere I hope its my body preparing itself for my period.
Thanks so much for the support n intrst Plan b.
Thanks for the update, Nisa!
I got my period on saturday and today I am bleeding very lightly almost like my period gonna end already.
I’ve never had such a short period (2 days) my normal period would last atleast 4 days.
Is it normal for it to be so painful, heavy and SHORT?
Dear Nisa, Sorry for my poky reply! Yes, it’s caused by the “hormones” again from the pill. Not too pleasant (sorry!). Next month’s period should be back to normal (some girls have experienced otherwise, but most are back to normal).
Hi. Im sort of in the same situation. I had sex on January 9th and took plan B that day, not even 10 hours later. Anyways, had my normal period, maybe a little lighter, only one day late on Jan 17. Fast forawrd to Feb 3rd. I cant stop peeing. I dont know if its my horomones being out of whack or what. Ive taken a hpt and it was negative. It would be 4 weeks since the date of intercourse. I have somewhat sore nipples but thats usual for me and my cycle but the peeing has me worried. I am freaking out! Im thinking plan b did its job but Im not sure. What do you think? Heres one more piece of info. I recently came off birth control. My last periods were as followed Nov 7, Dec 17, Jan 17. Im hoping to relax some but its not happening.
Brittney – Yeah, it sounds like it’s related to the Plan B you took. I don’t think you’re pregnant from the details you’ve given. When did you take the home pregnancy test?
Hi hanna i really need your help.
I have been on the pill for 4 months and has stopped taking it last month (january 2012) and had my withdrawal bleeding on Jan. 20. On Feb. 3 I have had unprotected sex using withdrawal method and took the morning-after-pill 4 hours later using Nordette and another dose after 12 hrs. Its been almost 2 weeks now but I have not got that “withdrawal bleeding” after taking the morning after pill is this still normal? Now, I have watery-like milky discharge and sore nipples. I also burp a lot. Could this be signs of pregnancy even if its still less than 2 weeks after sex or just me stopping my BC pills or the side effects of the morning after pill? Please help me.
Dear Edna, Sorry for the late response! Been crazy in my world the past couple of days. How many Nordette pills did you take? There isn’t always withdrawal bleeding after taking a high dose of birth control pills. Withdrawal bleeding tends to occur when you take emergency contraception not long after your period ends. Many girls can take Plan B/Next Choice or similar emergency contraceptive pills and experience minimal symptoms and no withdrawal bleed at all.
Your symptoms are probably just a side effect of the hormone flux in your body (caused by both stopping your birth control as well as taking the morning after pill dose). I would still definitely take a home pregnancy test in maybe two weeks.
Hi Hannah,
While my boyfriend and I were having intercourse, the condom fell off without us noticing. After that he came inside, thinking that the condom was still on. After we finished, we noticed that there was no condom, and later discovered that it was deep inside of me. I pulled it out.
About 10 minutes later I took a shower while he went to get the Plan B pill. The pill is called ESCAPELLE and I took it around 20 minutes after the accident.
I had never taken the pill before.
It happened a few hours ago, and I’m feeling fine, except for the stress, lots of it..
Also, what troubles me is the fact that I could be ovulating. I got my last period on January 29th and today is February 17.
What are the chances of me getting pregnant?
Thank you.
Hi Hannah.
Condomn broke and boyfriend finished. I was in middle of cycle. Took Escapelle after 30 minutes and before took shower. What chance getting pregnant?

I had sex but the condom broke and wasn’t near town when I got back home 2days after I took Escapelle because they say you can take it in the first 72hours after sex. I’m worried after a week I still didn’t get my period but had unprotected sex and the day after that I got my period it lasted up to 5 days normally. But my tummy is now swollen and I feel bloated. Can I be pregnant?
