Period 4 days late with a negative pregnancy test

My menstrual cycle is 4 days late. I have been having a lot of backache and abdomen pain. I have been under a lot of stress lately, especially wondering if I’m pregnant. So I purchased an EPT pregnancy test. Within 1 minute it showed 1 line which means you are not pregnant. Do you think this is precise? I also have been taking Fema Fresh, a feminine capsule, that helps females feel fresh and a few times I have used the Norforms feminine deodorant suppositories. Can these products affect my cycle as well as stress?  Andrea

Andrea,

I don’t believe Fema Fresh or Norforms Suppositories would affect your cycle.  Too much stress definitely can.  However, don’t base everything on one urine pregnancy test, especially one taken only 4 days after your period was late.  Though EPT pregnancy tests are known for being accurate (they advertise a 99% accuracy rate) and can be taken the day you expect your period, I would still recommend you take the pregnancy test again.  The amount of the pregnancy hormone hCG, which is what makes urine pregnancy tests work, can vary based on the individual.  After having your period late for one week, I’d recommend repeating the test in the morning when your hCG levels would be highest.

If the results are still negative, set up an appointment with your family doctor and see if something else is causing the backaches and abdominal pain.  There very well may be something else which is causing an adverse reaction in your body.

Best of luck,

Hannah

About 2 weeks before my period was about to start I started feeling a little sick to my stomach. Nothing to strong, but upset. My period was suppose to start 4 days ago. I took an Ept test yesterday and it was negative. I feel really light cramping, bloated and tender breasts. My husband and I have been trying to have a child for 2 years, so every month has been so disappointing. Is there a reason why my period is late? If I’m not pregnant, is there a possiblity something is wrong?

    Thanks,
    Melissa

I took pregnacy test all the time and it said negatifve. I went to the doctor and it said positive and that i was four months and didnt know it. The doctors says that test can be sensitive and you should wait atleast a month.

      Dear TS,

Yes, a blood pregnancy test will be able to detect a smaller amount of hCG in a newly pregnant woman’s body than over the counter urine home pregnancy tests. Urine HPTs typically tell you to wait until the time your next period should begin, though I’ve found that it’s still best to wait until the day when your missed period should have ended; and, even then, it’s best to take the HPT first thing in the morning when your urine is most concentrated. This way, any hCG will be present in your urine in larger quantities that should be detected by the HPT. If you think you’re pregnant, and the first test reads a negative (and you took the 1st test at the time mentioned above), then wait a full week before taking the second one.
