Angel J (17) writes: I stopped taking my birth control pills for about 3 months and i had sex with my boyfriend and the condom broke and he came, when he came he thought the condom was filling in and pulled it out as fast as he can and he said he came in me just a little.
As soon as i got home i took 2 birth control pills and used the summer eve doutch to get what ever was left inside me out, but i dont know if it came out but it looked nasty looking as it flowed out, but when i look at my stomach it looks like i am pregnant. Its it ok if i start taking my birth control ok instead of buying “plan B morning pill” if so is birth control as strong as “plan B morning pill”? And if i take my birth control should i just start taking it again?

Dear Angel J,
When did you have sex?
Sadly, douching won’t prevent pregnancy. Sperm swim incredibly fast, and douching, if anything, may merely push the sperm in further. Usually sperm are beyond reach long before you douche. Douching can also have some other not so desirable effects, which makes it hard for most doctors to recommend.
Some types of birth control pills can be used as emergency contraception (see this chart); different brands of birth control pills have different levels of hormones in them. The catch with using normal daily birth control pills as emergency contraception is that you’re bound to experience more not-to-desirable side effects than you might if you just took Plan B. And, if taking a mega dose of your daily birth control pills makes you get nauseous and throw up, you may very well be losing the birth control dose you swallowed, and that puts you back at square one.
To go with the “scientific route,” studies have shown that 0.5 milligrams of levonorgestrel and 100 micrograms (mcg) of ethinyl estradiol taken in two doses around 12 hours apart will give you about a 75-90% chance of not getting pregnant (assuming you take it within a couple days after having unprotected sex). The sooner it is taken after having sex, the higher you can push your probability for not getting pregnant.
If you had sex yesterday or the day before that, then Plan B is probably your best bet. You’re still within the 75% success range, but the longer you wait, the lower your probability for success drops. Ideally, as Hannah likes to say, try to always take Plan B within 12 hours of having an episode of unprotected sex or a condom incident.
If you are pregnant, resuming your birth control won’t make you no longer pregnant – only an abortion would do that, and that’s a whole different ball game. If you can get back to us with the date that you had sex, that will help us better guessimate your chances for being pregnant.
Best,
Justin

Me and my boyfriend have unprotected sex and i am not on birth control. He swears he “pulls out” before anything could happen even when he pre cums. It has been two weeks since we last had sex, but I could be pregnant from the times before that as well. I have thrown up twice in the past two days, but it could be because i started taking my ADHD medication again which makes me nauseous and causes me to not eat. My breasts are not sore, but i have not had a period in two months, my period has always been pretty regular, but i have also changed my eating habits and have been more active to lose weight and i used to play soccer and during soccer season since i was so active i would only have a period about once every three months. I have also taken two pregnancy tests within the past two weeks and they have both come out negative, they were not however taken in the morning as directed. Is there a chance i could still be pregnant? Any help will be much appreciated!
